kolkata: the trinamul congress has decided to stay away from the all-party delegations which will be going to capitals around the world to garner support for india's stand on terrorism. trinamul mp akbar ali khondekar was nominated by the party to join the delegation. accordingly, khondekar had also rushed off to delhi to board the plane. but things did not work out at the last moment, indicating ruffled feathers between nda allies trinamul and the bjp on trinamul's cabinet berth.

khondaker has since come back to kolkata. when contacted, khondaker was evasive. i am not aware of anything, said the mp from hooghly. when khondaker failed to make the team, the trinamul even suggested mp and chief whip sudip bandyopadhyay's name to be included in the list. but bandyopadhyay recovering at aiims after a surgery, the possibility of his joining the delegation is also sremote. confirming that trinamul was indeed not a part of the all-party delegation, sources close to mamata banerjee said that far from being dropped, it was trinamul that decided to stay away from the all-party delegation. according to trinamul sources, the party decided to stay away from the all-party delegation after it repeatedly failed to find a berth in the union cabinet. trinamul supremo mamata banerjee had rushed off to delhi on january 25, straight from presidency correctional centre where she had gone to court arrest as part of trinamul's law-violation programme. she did this after being summoned by nda convener george fernandes, rekindling speculations about trinamul's return to cabinet. mamata banerjee, however, returned to kolkata on sunday evening, laying rest to all such rumours. the state unit of the party is now more bothered about cpm state secretary anil biswas' recent remarks to deploy party cadre to identify terrorist elements. biswas' remarks are tantamount to admitting that the administration has completly failed in its duty, said trinamul leader partha chatterjee. arguing that the terrorism scenario in west bengal is going beyond control, leader of the opposition pankaj banerjee reiterated his party's decision to appoint a full-time home minister. we are not demanding buddhadeb bhattacharjee's resignation. but there must be a full-time home minister to take charge of the situation, banerjee said.
